It might be available soon, and you might leave this world sooner than the long-awaited medical help is provided. There are few quotas – because there are few specialists-oncologists, as well – there are about 450 cancer patients per doctor. When people decide to seek help from the health care system, they do not even know what it can turn out to be, and not only financially. The patients and their relatives call it "the road of sorrows". First, the attending physician (usually a therapist or some narrow specialist in a polyclinic who diagnosed the case as a malignant tumor) makes up a detailed medical statement indicating everything that could be diagnosed, which is sent to a medical commission (the period is 3 days). The Commission, with a positive decision, sends the materials to the Commission of the subject of the Russian Federation, which takes the final decision; and after it within 10 days the patient is to be hospitalized. In practice, this procedure can take several months. In general, all the terms, all mandatory measures and instances are available in the prescription – doctors do not invent independently where to send their patients. The system is extremely rigid. If, for example, you got the results of a biopsy with an oncological diagnosis, and the treatment (if you went to the doctor who prescribed you) was not taken, but you did not get it for a year or two, you stop fitting into the working medical conveyor of examination of human bodies. If you feel like having a a biopsy done – well, you can obtain it through connections or for good money in some commercial oncological center (because the usual ones are packed to capacity). And "honestly" – you need a prescription from a certain specialist. Where to go? To the polyclinic at the place of residence, that is, to start everything from the "first level". Actually, any step aside of those prescribed by the health care system almost always discards you to the beginning. In addition, on some "floors" (even not only allegorically, but directly on the floors in front of the doctor’s room or health worker’s), you can stay for a very, very long time.
